Last Wednesday four of our golfers walked close to 20 miles each, and played from dawn until dusk, playing 72 holes in the longest day challenge to raise money for the respective Captains charities. The intrepid group consisted of Oxford Ladies Captain, Jane Tavinor. Oxford City Captain, Paul Dandridge. Along with employees of the club, General Manager, Stephen Nicholson and Bookkeeper, Heather Scott.
To help encourage the group, the two Captains combined as one team against the two club employees playing Better Ball stableford for each of the four rounds. Heather and Stephen took the early lead, before the Captains’ team forged ahead during the middle rounds. The match was closed out by a final round victory for Heather and Stephen, ending in a very respectable 2 – 2 all draw.
The weary team had sore legs for a few days after, but In total the day raised OVER £2,500 for the respective charities, which is a phenomenal effort!
Stephen said, ‘It was great to be part of a magnificent fundraising effort. We all enjoyed each others company and it was nice to just get out of the office, play golf, and have a general chat with one another. My legs are feeling it the most, but I’ll live.’
The team are adamant they won’t be undertaking the same feat next year, we’ll see!
