Oxford City Golf Club
Oxford City Golf Club, founded in 1899, is a very friendly club and we are always ready to give a warm welcome to new members. We have plenty to offer players and would-be players of all ages and abilities on our outstanding golf course in the heart of Oxford. This includes roll-up games, competitions, matches, tuition and social events. We do not operate a tee-booking system, and subject to tee-reservations for club matches and competitions you can just turn up and play whenever you like. Informal ‘roll-ups’ take place on most days of the week. Members can simply turn up and enter for a modest sum often only £1; playing partners are drawn at random and the winners take the cash! These roll-ups are very popular because there is no need to pre-arrange a game and they are an excellent way of meeting other members. New members are always welcome.
Our trophy cabinet is well stocked; some are over 50 years old. Competitions take place on most weekends, and often during the week, particularly for retired members. There are separate competitions for junior and senior members. Our seniors section is particularly active with roll-ups (Tuesday and Thursday mornings) and many matches against other local clubs on weekdays.
Members wishing to develop or improve their golf game will find that our friendly PGA professionals offer coaching at reasonable prices on our practice range and putting green.
Oxford City members are encouraged to play in the many inter-club matches that are arranged during the season. Low handicappers play in the Oxfordshire Foursomes Scratch League. We encourage players with any handicap to join our B Team squad which plays many friendly matches against local clubs, usually on Saturdays. The Seniors section has many matches midweek. For those who like social golf Oxford City and Oxford Ladies play a small number of mixed pairs matches, and organise a limited number of mixed pairs competitions during the season.
Jointly with Oxford Ladies we hold a number of social functions, including music events, quizzes, and the highlight of the year, the Summer Ball.
